So, apparently, ML has tested this on three different occasions including one stuffed lion. Huh, the boy can learn. Hopefully this will last into his teenage years!

Birthday weekend
Daddy has been having a horrible time with his sleep habits. Three weeks ago, daddy was on the night shift, working 10p till 8a. He got adjusted to that. But, last week, he has been on noon till 10p shift, which sounds like a fine shift, however, he keeps waking up at 2:30 in the morning and cannot fall back asleep until 6a. That is, unless, he takes an Ambien in which case he sleeps for 15 hours straight. That's what daddy did for his birthday, thus sleeping right through Rosh Hashana services. Last night, daddy went to bed early with me, but again woke up at 2:30a when I woke up. I've also been having some difficulties staying asleep, probably because I'm teething. So, daddy came and played with me and put me in my crib. While daddy laid in the guest bed, I sat and watched him. Then I realized I could grab the top of my crib and stand on my knees. Then, I decided to pull myself up! Daddy woke mommy, for some reason, and went to grab the camera. He had plenty of time because I had no idea how to get myself back down...

Daddy's birthday cake. Daddy's only 11 years old!

Mommy version of flying-baby...it stretches the clothes less than daddy's version!

Standing in my crib for the first time. At least, the first witnessing of it.

Mid day Update..
I'm off of night shift but on to evening shift (noon till 10p). I woke up late today but had enough time to play with Richie while ML showered. He has started crawling over into our lap and he looks like he wants to be held, but that lasts for about 3 seconds before something else captures his attention. While I was playing on the floor with him, I had taken one of the arm-rest pillows from the couch. When I was getting ready to leave for work, while ML was playing with him, he pushed himself up to stand just using the pillow! (He's pulled himself up on us, but this was the first time pushing up from an object without our involvement). I tried to catch a quick picture...I'm not sure if they came out, hopefully I'll get to look tomorrow morning. Maybe he'll be walking by then. ;-)

Uhg, it's 3:30 AM and I cannot sleep. I'm trying to switch over from night shift (10P till 8A) to evening shift (12p till 10p). I figured since I cannot sleep, I should study (and post).
Richie is doing much better with his crawling forward! He continues to try to launch himself off of the bed. One of the times I was watching him, he launched himself over the "protective" body pillow and I grabbed his ankles just in the nick of time. About 2/3 of his torso was off of the bed. He actually fell of the bed a few days ago onto his butt. Good padding! He fell off of the couch too, that one is my fault. He's sitting up much better, too. But he'll still occasionally loose his balance and fling himself onto his back. It usually happens after playing with him for an hour while he sits and you forget to watch what is behind him. :) He's also going from being on his tummy to sitting up, these days! ML thinks there's a third tooth coming in. The two he's got are coming in very well. He's doing much better with eating the semi-solid oatmeal. There are probably more things he's doing, but that's all I can think of at the moment. Let's see if we have some good pictures to post:

Did I mention that he's sleeping with his butt in the air. It doesn't matter what position you start him in, this is where he ends up.

This is an early shot of his first tooth from a few weeks ago. I've got to get a new picture, soon!

Text only
One of these days I'll actually get something more pictorial posted, but until then, you'll have to be satisfied in the notion that Richie sat at the dinner table in his highchair for the first time tonight! He ate from his sippy cup (although a large portion of the formula actually ran out of his mouth). He enjoys the spoon we use to feed him the oatmeal cereal more than the actual cereal itself. To make room for the highchair, we dismantled the swing. ML thinks there's another tooth emerging. For the first time, he cried when daddy left the room. I took him downstairs to my office yesterday and it was real sensory overload! He just kept spinning his head from one side to the other trying to figure out where he was, and, probably, what all of the "new" crap is.
...One more hour to go in this shift...

First double take
To protect the innocent, all names have been changed:
Bart did his first double take today! One of Bart's parents (Homer or Marge) emitted a loud flatus while lounging in bed with Bart. Bart was on his tummy at the time and, moments after the offending sound was made, he slung his head around, then back in the other direction and back again. Okay, so that doesn't read as funny as it actually was. It was REALLY funny! At least Homer thinks so.

3AM Update (now with corrections)
You all will just have to suffer with a text update. Why so early in the morning? Well, I'm working the night-shift and I happen to have a free moment! Here's the latest Richie news:
1) Richie has already sprouted his second tooth! It's the other front, bottom tooth.
2) He had his 6 month appointment this week.
a) He continues to grow very and is now 19 lbs 9oz.
b) He grew two inches.
c) His head grew too, but I don't remember the exact amount.
3) The day of the appointment, he sat himself up twice before the appointment.
a) That was one of the milestones they asked about at the appointment.
b) He did it a third time right in front of the pediatrician! Way to nail a milestone!
4) He is flirting less. He seems to be more selective about it these days.
5) He is babbling more.
6) His mommy is trying to get him to say, "Da da."
7) His daddy is trying to get him to day "Ma ma."
8) He is likely going to get confused on who is who.
a) He actually says "Ba ba" once in a while. At least he knows who he is.
9) He loves playing flying baby where I hold him over my head and fly him around the room.
10) He loves playing far/near, where you say the word depending on your position relative to him.
a) He loves the combination of flying baby and far/near, too!
11) His favorite toy is the bottle of water I am drinking.
12) He is receiving his first round of antibiotics for (a sinus infection).
a) The antibiotics cleared up the snot that was waking him up at night.
b) He doesn't like the taste of amox.
c) It has made him not like the taste of Tylenol.
d) My peds buddy scolded me for calling it an URI. She was treating a worsening sinus infection. Funny, I thought he was too young to have sinuses...ah SNAP! Whatever we want to call it, it worked and he is doing better.
13) He ate "solid" food for the first time today.
a) It really wasn't solid. More like an oatmeal-formula paste.
b) It really wasn't paste.
c) He took the spoon and put it in his own mouth.
1) I wonder where he gets his eating skills?
2) His mother doest not wonder.
3) Movies will follow shortly.
