Michigan J. Richie
About two weeks ago, Richie started doing something totally amazing! He started throwing and playing ball! He'll sit in the living room and if he has his small super-ball in his hand, he'll throw it to you and he'll get it if you roll it back to him. If you roll his big ball to him, he'll pick it up, bounce it on the ground (keeping his hands on it) a couple of times and then bounce it to you! By the way, Papa-Nat, he throws with his left arm!
The only problem is, every time we go for the camera when he's playing ball, he stops. Won't do it. Pretends like he has no idea what you're talking about or doing when you give him the ball. Hence Michigan J. Frog. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click on Michigan J. Frog and watch the old WB cartoon from 1955. So, you'll just have to trust us that Richie is doing that or you'll have to come see in person!
In other news, Richie has object permanence. I noticed it the other day: I had the camera in my hand (trying to get a movie of Richie playing ball). When right turned away, I went to slip it under a pillow and he turned back, looked at my hand, and went to get the camera out from under the pillow. He'll also laugh if he's expecting something fun: there's a song that he learned that includes him flying through the air. If you start singing it, he'll laugh and jump up and down. If you stop just prior to where you fly him through the air, he'll laugh again waiting for it to happen. And, of course, he laughs while it's happening. I think we do have a movie of that, which I will upload some day soon.
The yelling is a little less frequent, however, the temper tantrums are a little more frequent. He's started submitting for forcible naps during the day only requiring 5-10 min of crying followed by sleeping for 2 hrs. And he saw his second snow fall, although it was the first that he has a chance to remember because the first snow was on day of life 4.
Richie at his last "real" day of Music Together.

He digs those cymbals!

Lot's of Pictures and Daddy's Birthday...again?
Richie rediscovered his rocking chair! Now that he can actually sit on his own, it's a brand new experience!

This was the last official day of Music Together class. Daddy was actually available to join! Here's the communal drum.

Yes, his sticker IS on his back. Mommy puts it there so Richie cannot get to it. She so smart!

He can play the cymbals! Or, rather, cymbal.

A couple of Richie's friends.

This is the class leader.

Daddy!

So, lately, Daddy has been spending lots of time working on our car. He's made some progress, but he decided there was something wrong with this wheel that he did not have the equipment to fix. I know, difficult to believe. Well we now have a new wheel bearing and hub. Which is a good thing because if it really failed, the wheel would come off! Daddy has been trying to figure out what to get himself with all of the generous birthday givings he received. Now he knows where it went, this repair. Yeah. Happy Birthday Daddy! Next year maybe you'll get a tie.

Cute and Pathetic.
One thing I forgot to mention: Now that we all are sharing the same cold, thanks to Richie, we are frequently having to spray saline in his nose and periodically having to suck out all of the snot. He used to shriek in horror when we did this. Well, it's so bad that he'll actually put his nose up to the suction bulb without crying. He now knows that we're trying to help him and what it's going to do. With that said, he much prefers to do this sitting up instead of lying down--which seems akin to water boarding. He's so cute!
Last night he "wished" me into the room. Mommy had gotten up with him around 11p. Daddy couldn't sleep, so after a while I went to go check on them. Apparently, Richie had been periodically turning to look at the door, which I didn't know. So when I was standing in the doorway, Richie cracked a big smile! Of course, then I could not sleep for the next three hours, but it was worth it.

The Turkey Says, "Gobble Gobble Gobble!"
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy 9 Month Birthday to Richie!
Since the last post, we've had more visitors and we've been trying different foods. Oh! There's a good story!
One of the solid foods that baby's are "allowed" to have without processing or mashing are avocados. Mommy and Daddy love them so we thought we'd see what Richie had to say about them. Mommy cautiously cut a small piece off and place it into Richie's anxiously awaiting moist little tongue. He closed his moist little lips and began to manipulate the little piece of avocado: Feeling, tasting, experiencing. Fractions of a second go by as his sweet happy little face turns to a horrific frown! His little mouth opens and he spits out the little mushy green piece of avocado with an expression that says, "Why did you do that to me?"--as his body gave a quiver. Followed by cute little right throwing-up the formula we had just given him. And, then a second time!
Although he does not speak as of yet, we are interpreting this course of events to mean that he really does not enjoy avocados at this time. Too bad Daddy didn't have the video camera rolling.
Now that it is Thanksgiving, we thought we'd try chicken in addition to his sweet potatoes. While not as dramatic as the avocado, it was clear that he was not fond of the new taste either. Maybe he'll just be a vegetarian.
Pappa-Nat and Honey visited earlier this week, so let's get on with the photographs!
Sweet Potatoes anyone?

Richie hanging out in the Ultimate Fighting Arena!

Three generations of Gozansky men

Richie and Pappa-Nat playing bouncy-bounce.

Richie and Honey playing in the dining room.

Richie suffering having his nails cut. Yes, it take two of us.

Now, in the squared circle is Richie vs. Honey!

Yes, he can actually play ball!

Smiles all around.

Happy Thanksgiving from our Stuffed Little Turkey!

We rediscovered riding on Daddy's shoulders today. Too bad there's not enough hair for Richie to hold onto for security. Maybe some of his drool will inspire some new growth!

Halloween wrap up and Oma's visit
It rained a bit on Halloween, so, the hearse had to be dried out before storing. Little did we know that it was going to rain the entire next day. So, we blew it up in our dining room, of course!

Omee's visit!

Richie eating some "solid" food.

He's learning about draws.

Some serious giggles from Momma AND the boy!

Too cute...

In other news, Richie is the proud owner of 10 shares of Ford Motor company. Despite our objections to the families history of antisemitism, it's up 1.1% on a Dow-down day!

Oh no.
Mommy's and Daddy's world came crashing down today. Richie discovered that he can yell (quite loudly) when he's upset. Oh crap.

Update
Oma has been visiting for the last week. Soon, hopefully, there will be some pictures. Daddy is on an ER rotation which is very busy.
Richie, however, has been babbling up a storm! About a week ago he was saying, "Haw waw, haw waw waw waw waw? Waw Haw waw waw waw waw waw." If anyone has a translation for that, we'd be thankful. We're pretty sure that it does not mean he's hungry, thirsty or that he needs to be changed.
In any case, we have since moved to, "Ga gee ga ha wa. Ga gee ga ga ga." No "Goo's" at this point. Again, translation?
Best I can figure is, "Do you want to play? I want to play."

Halloween and more
Richie enjoyed his first Halloween, or at least he seemed to! Before we get into that, here are a few new pictures to share:
Doesn't he just look so cute in his little pants!

Look at that SMILE! Oh, and those crooked teeth. Something else he got from me.

More smiles!

Daddy and me!

Richied napped a couple of times today. At some point he napped with his mommy and daddy, and he kept sleeping for about 2 hours! Here is cuddled up in our bed! Hope non of my pediatricians see this.

Mommy is carving her pumpkin, babysitting, and watching daddy get the house ready.

Not too dissimilar from last year except we had the big pumpkin coming out of a first floor window where it's more visible to the little kids. We hung the spider and skeleton from the roof. Maybe some day we'll have them on pulleys again.

The horse drawn Hurst continues to please the visitors.

The pumpkin-man is feeding is pumpkin-baby, which happens to prefer human babies. The bottle is for the pumpkin-baby, but we're getting him used to solid food!

Pumpkin-man's baby take a long time to eat. It's difficult keeping that human baby in his mouth!

You can see the Pumpkin-man's baby and melded with the human baby in a completely unexpected way! But, the Pumpkin-man knows to just go with the flow.

Pumpkin-baby tries to fight off Pumpkin-man.

Feeding the pumpkin-baby. Told you!
